The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board will hear oral arguments on  the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant’s proposal to build two new reactors north of Glen Rose. The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. in the Jury Selection Room of the Hood County Justice Center, 1200 W. Pearl St., in Granbury.

Friday, April 16

Glen Rose Medical Center’s Relay for Life team holds a cookout from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. by the circle drive. Barbecue, provided by Freedom Hospice, will be served in sandwiches with chips, cookies and a drink for $5. Everyone is invited.

Then follows a “Pie in the Face” fundraiser at noon. The lineup is Orson Guenther from noon to 12:30 p.m., Colleen Milam from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Pies cost $5; a $20 donation can add names to the lineup. Also, there’s a “Purple Mohawk Contest” in which two employees, James Shackelford and Camyle Spence, have agreed to shave their hair into Mohawks at 2 p.m. and dye them purple to help raise money for Relay for Life of Somervell County.

Saturday, April 17

A plant sale to benefit the Glen Rose Youth Baseball Association will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the square and on U.S. 67 across from Tiger Car Wash. Hanging baskets and four-inch flower pots and flower flats will be for sale.

Barb’s Wire and Roses Relay for Life baked potato lunch with all the fixin’s, noon at the Somervell County Citizens Center. Lunch is $5; purchase tickets at the center or at the door. A silent auction, bake sale and raffle will be held.

Monday, April 19

Relay for Life committee meeting at 5:30 p.m. and team captain meeting at 6:30 p.m. At the LaQuinta Inn.

Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24

The Texas Department of Transportation holds a public meeting about the rural portion of the 2011-2014 Transportation Improvement Program, or TIP. The Erath and Somervell county portions will be discussed at 1:30 p.m. in the Stephenville City Hall Council Chambers, 298 W. Washington St., Stephenville.
