Glen Rose Independent School Districtís Child Nutrition Department is making plans and gathering information for this summerís feeding program.
Many children may not have food to eat during the summer. For this reason, the Child Nutrition Department again will offer free breakfasts and lunches in selected parts of Somervell County.
Surveys will be sent home with each student during this week. C.J. Brown, child nutrition coordinator, said the surveys will help decide where the feeding sites will be located. Feeding sites need to be placed in areas with at least 50 percent free and reduced price children.
However, any child under 18 can receive a free breakfast or lunch and a place where the children can sit and eat their meal. Meals also will be available for purchase by adults at a reasonable price.
GRISDís Child Nutrition Department fed an average of 200 children per day last summer. None of them could have been fed without the help and cooperation of the child nutrition staff and the many wonderful volunteers who gave their time to take the prepared food out to the feeding locations last year.
Volunteer meetings will be determined later after the surveys are evaluated. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should contact Brown at 254-898-3907.
