On October 14, 2008 Somervell County 4-H members and junior members (known as clover kids) met at the Somervell County Expo Center for their second meeting of the season. After the business meeting in which the members discussed livestock validation dates and deadlines, the members divided into teams to participate in a pumpkin decorating contest.
Five teams had 15 minutes to paint, color and create works of art with their pumpkins. Three adult 4-H leaders served as contest judges, but after much deliberation they agreed that all of the pumpkins were great and they couldn’t choose just one.
Afterward participants enjoyed snacks and gathered around the “works of art” to compliment their friends’ efforts. After the meeting, five 4-H officers took the Halloween pumpkins to Cherokee Rose Nursing Home for the residents to enjoy.
The next meeting is scheduled for November 11, 2008.
