Sometimes those of us who work at the Somervell County Citizens Center wonder where are all the senior citizens who live in this county?
Many times we have heard or overheard someone say ďI donít wanna go down there with all those OLD PEOPLE.Ē
Let me assure you, we are a lively bunch. Coming down and engaging in our activities doesnít mean youíre old. It just means you are available during the day. You may be retired or stay at home while your spouse works.
You may even be a young mom whose kids are in school.
We would love to see you come down, hang out, eat lunch, learn something new or maybe even teach us something.
This Friday night is our monthly family game night. We have everything from Ping Pong to Chicken Foot, so come on down, bring a snack and have some fun from 7-9.
Attorney, Sandra Reed, will be giving a seminar on wills and powers of attorney at the center on 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Be sure and join us on Valentineís Day, Thursday, Feb. 14. We will crown our Valentine king and queen. Donít forget to wear red because we will be awarding a prize for the man and woman wearing the most red!
Our next dance will be held this week, on Friday, Feb. 8, and we have changed the lineup. C.B. Sutton will be back again, as we celebrate Valentineís Day early. Donít let the lack of a Valentine sweetheart keep you home. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the band starts at 7. There is a $5 admission fee at the door.
We will have the AARP tax preparation folks here again this year. Call Sandy and schedule a time to have your taxes done for free. They will be here 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and you donít have to be a senior citizen.
Activities at the citizenís center beginning February 11: Walmart shopping, chess and Bingo on Monday; wood carvers, sewing/quilting and movie night on Tuesday; Bunco tournament, blood pressure testing by Interim Home Health, country and western dance lessons and AARP tax preparation on Wednesday; Valentineís celebration, chess, AARP tax preparation and Davidís shopping on Thursday; and Bingo, Brookshire's shopping, Swap & Shop and game night on Friday.
In addition to the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, quilting, Forty-Two and visiting daily.
