You won’t want to miss our big fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 30. Cow Patty Bingo begins at 3 p.m., as well as a bake sale, cake/prize walk and quilt raffle. This fundraiser is for the purchase of automated defibrillators for the center and center vans. We will also be handing out candy to the kids that day during Safe Treat.
Friday, Oct. 29, we will have a costume and pumpkin decorating contest. Come in costume and bring your carved, painted or otherwise gussied-up pumpkin. Judging will be at 11:30 a.m. and prizes will be awarded for best costume and best pumpkin.
Winners of last week’s “42” tournament: First place winners were Royce Stacy and Clark Stewart. Dorothy Jo Osborn and Ila Verne Stull took second, Eddie and Billie Flanary took third and fourth place winners were Floyd Flanary and Dortha Beck.
Others playing in the tournament were: Don Baker and James Kelly, Janelle Gartrell and Alice Lance, Veda Gosdin and Nancy Moore, Mary Voss and Marcy Copell, Patsy Thompson and Roger Jordan, Ann Parham and Trey Welch, Loveda Swaim and Grady May and Zula Hunter and Cora Harkins.
We still have not found anyone to volunteer to call bingo on Fridays. Even if you can only help out one Friday a month, please call the center and ask for Jan.
We have a new group of chess players here at the center. They have at least a couple of tables going every Monday and Thursday starting at 11 a.m. and playing until…whenever. If you’re interested, just drop in.
Activities at the Citizens Center beginning Oct. 18 are: “42,” exercise, Wii bowling and chess on Monday; “42,”,ceramics, needlework and bluegrass on Tuesday; “42,” Clark Cole, Lee Home Health screening and “42” tournament on Wednesday; “42,” exercise, art, chess and David’s grocery shopping on Thursday; “42,” bingo, quilting and Brookshire’s grocery shopping on Friday. Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, quilting, “42” and visiting going on every day.
We would like to thank Best Value pharmacy for their donation of a wheelchair to the center. We loan the donated medical equipment to the public. Besides wheelchairs, we have various types of walkers, canes, crutches, commode chairs, shower benches and even diabetic testing meters available.
Visitors to the center last week were: James, Rosemarie and Jayme Jahrsdorfer, who are family of Angie Dally in our kitchen ,and we have Wayne and Jacquie Carstenson back in Glen Rose for the season.
Remember, you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us. Come join us.
