Junior High Optimist Youth of the Month for April are Sloan Williams and David Barnes. Williams is on the AB honor roll and has held leadership roles as a cheerleader in seventh and eighth grades, 4-H, where she served as the second vice president in seventh grade and the first vice president in eighth grade and 4-H officers training. Her acheivements include volleyball, basketball, softball, Grand Champion Swine at the Somervell County Youth Fair and participating in the 4-H Food Challenge. Williams community involvement includes 4-H; Adopt-A-Highway for 4-H; Junior FFA; Somervell County Youth Fair participant for food entries and swine; Relay for Life volunteer; canned food drives at Christmas and Angel Tree program; volunteering at Sunset Nursing Home and babysitting. Barnes (not pictured) is on the A/B Honor Roll and is enrolled in AP classes. His leadership involvement includes holding the previous assistant senior patrol leader for Scouts. Barnes’ achievements include first place in UIL Dictionary Skills; National Geographic Bee Winner of GRJHS; perfect attendance in 2009; a member of the 2009-2010 District Symphonic Band; participated in football, basketball and track. His community involvement includes being a member of First Baptist Church Youth Praise Band and a Boy Scouts and Life Scout Rank.
