Special to the Reporter
Flu season is upon us and we are offering flu shots at the center on Thursday, Sept. 30. The shots are covered by Medicare but there will be a fee for non-Medicare recipients. Call or come by the center to sign-up and be sure to bring your Medicare card.
All parties who have contributed to the Somervell County Senior Citizen’s Endowment Trust Fund are invited to attend a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Paluxy Room at the Citizens Center.
Our next Bunco tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. We will award prizes for the highest score, most Buncos and least Buncos. It’s a lot of fun and if you can roll dice, you can play Bunco.
We have scheduled a trip to Hico for Saturday, Oct. 9. This will be a shopping and sightseeing trip. We will meet at the center that morning at 9 a.m. and head back around 4 p.m. Call or come by the center to sign up.
If you are looking for some light activity rather than “exercise,” come down to the center on Mondays at 10:30 a.m. and bowl with us. Wii bowling has all the sights, sounds and movements as real bowling without having to chunk that heavy ball. We also have tennis, baseball and golf for the Wii if bowling isn’t your thing.
We still need volunteers to call bingo on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. If you would like to volunteer for one Friday or every Friday, please call the center and ask for Jan.
The winners of last week’s 42 Tournament were Roy Mercer and James Kelley. There was a tie for second place between the teams of Loveda Swaim and Grady May and Don Baker and Clark Stewart. Third place went to Veda Gosdin and Nancy Moore, and fourth place went to Dorothy Jo Osborn and Ila Verne Stull. Other teams playing in the tournament were: Billie and Eddie Flanary, Zula Hunter and Cora Harkins, Ann Parham and Trey Welch, Floyd Flanary and Dortha Beck, Janelle Gartrell and Alice Lance, Patsy Thompson and Roger Jordan and Mary Voss and Marcy Copell.
Activities at the Citizens Center beginning Sept. 27 are: “42,” exercise and Wii bowling on Monday; “42,” needlework and ceramics on Tuesday; “42” and Bunco tournament on Wednesday; “42,” exercise and David’s grocery shopping on Thursday; “42,” bingo, quilting and Brookshire’s grocery shopping on Friday. Besides the scheduled activities there are games, puzzles, quilting and visiting going on every day.
We would like to wish staff members Stella Marlow and Angie Dally “Happy Birthday” this month.
If there is an activity or outing you would like to see at the Center, please feel free to make suggestions.
Come join us.
Remember, you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us.
