Cross of Christ Episcopal Church will sponsor a soup supper, food drive and auction to benefit the Somervell County Food Bank at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4.
The entire community is invited to participate in an evening of fellowship and fundraising.
The church will provide boiling pots of soup stock, bread and desserts. Attendees are asked to bring something to add to the soup kettles for a "friendship stew," clean out their pantries to replenish food bank shelves and bring a treasure to contribute to the auction and their check books.
Last year's event collected several hundred pounds of food and raised more than $2,000.
Somervell County Food Bank relies on donations from businesses, community members, organizations and churches in the county to purchases food from the Tarrant Area Food Bank. Food bank organizers can purchase 1,000 pounds of food for just $100.
The local food bank is located at the corner of Pecan and Vine streets, behind First United Methodist Church, and serves more than 250 needy families in Somervell County. Hours of operation are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. every Tuesday.
New clients must provide a picture identification and proof of residency.
Volunteers to aid with food distribution are always needed and welcomed.
Call (254) 897-2192 to reserve your "cup of soup."
The fundraising event will be held at the Brazos House Retreat, located at 3142 CR 304, at the end of the road past Camp 'n Fish.
