Special to the Reporter

Glen Rose residents Garry Acuncius and Megan Cooke placed high in their age groups in the 29th annual Hotter N Hell 100 mile bicycle ride Saturday, Aug. 28, in Wichita Falls.

It was the third time Acuncius had participated in the race and the second time for Cooke.

Acuncius finished third overall in his division and Cooke finished 10th in hers.

This was a record year for entries with more than 13,000 riders taking nearly eight city blocks to amass for the start. Overall, Acuncius and Cooke placed 607th and 608th, respectively.

Both were pleased with the results, but said their ride would have been much better if Cooke had not suffered leg cramps at mile 35. They lasted until she pulled into a medic tent at mile 85. However, after an hour of electrolyte therapy, both riders resumed and finished strongly.

They would like to thank Stumpblaster's Bicycles for their continued support and advice and look forward to next year's ride.
