Eighth and ninth grade students are invited to get up close and personal with healthcare professionals at the Brazos Area Health Education Centerís (AHEC) annual Health Careers Summer Camp from June 8-11 at Baylor University in Waco.

Students will take field trips and get hands-on experience with healthcare professionals to learn about careers in the health care industry.

Fieldtrips include visits to hospitals, clinics, laboratories, training sites and doctor offices.

Students will have hands-on activities in dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, athletic training and physical therapy, guided by healthcare professionals from 10 different specialties.

Students will also get information about how to prepare for a career in the healthcare industry.

Students from Somervell County and other counties in Brazos AHECís 18-county service region are invited to apply for limited spots at the camp.

Students are selected based on a written essay and two teacher recommendations. If chosen, students pay $300 for the camp, including housing, supervision, meals, all activities and evening use of Baylorís recreation facilities.
