Special to the Reporter
The Glen Rose Lions Club, as part of the greater International Lions Club, is an organization that advocates for sight. October is the month devoted to the vision of helping as many people as possible who need assistance with their eye care.
As Lions we:
* Recycle glasses at 17 centers worldwide.
* Support the Lions Eye Banks, which annually provide quality eye tissue for 30,000 sight-saving surgeries, medical education and eye research.
* Screen the vision of hundreds of thousands of people every year — in Glen Rose the Lions Club hosts vision screenings at the annual Glen Rose Medical Center Health Fair in August.
* Provide cataract surgeries and other eye care services to those at risk of losing their sight — in Glen Rose we work with the LDL Educational Resources Foundation to ensure that those in need can obtain eye exams and glasses.
We ask the community to participate in sight preservation by dropping used eyeglasses at one of our collection sites. Thank you for helping!
Collection sites are located at:

If you need assistance with eye exams or lenses…
Anyone in need of assistance with vision exams and glasses can contact the LDL Foundation for referral to an optometrist and the vision center. LDL is housed in the Glen Rose Intermediate School office and interested parties can contact Shawn Nystl or Dorothy Gibbs or Leta Yocham. The telephone number is 898-3603. LDL will make the referral and assist with the eye exam and then the Lions Club assists with the purchase of corrective lenses. This process is all coordinated through the LDL Foundation with that one initial contact.
