This year's 2010 Relay for Life of Somervell County raised more than $43,000 for the American Cancer Society’s research, education, advocacy and service programs.

“ This outstanding show of support proves that the people of Glen Rose and Somervell County are truly committed to 'fighting back' against cancer,” said Shellee Seidl, the event chair for the 2010 Relay For Life of Somervell County. “I would like to extend a very special thank you to all the residents of Glen Rose and Somervell County for their tremendous generosity and support.”

Twenty-six teams participated.

More than 40 cancer survivors walked the opening Survivors Lap, officially kicking off this year’s event on April 23 to 24.

“These survivors are the reason we continue the fight,” Seidl said. “Their participation inspires hope in those currently battling cancer.”

A special “thanks” also go to the many Relay For Life volunteers who spent so much time and hard work to make this event such a success.

“The Relay For Life committee did a fabulous job of putting the event together,” Seidl said.

Also, a special thanks to Lloyd Wirt for being the auctioneer and to Joseph Hammack for assisting Seidl as emcee on hort notice.

A Relay “Wrap Up” Party is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19, from 5:30 to 7:00pm at the Community Center. Awards will be presented and refreshments will be served.
