Thanksgiving is not just about a family feast and the opening of the holiday season, for many workers across the county, it offers an extended time away from the office.

In addition to many retailers and restaurants who will take at least one day off for the holiday, government offices and schools will close their doors for a longer break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

• Somervell County offices will be closed Thursday and Friday.

• Town Hall and city offices will be close at noon today and reopen Monday. City residents in need of water department or animal control assistance are encouraged to call the sheriff's office at (254) 897-2242, and the appropriate person will be dispatched.

• The Glen Rose Reporter, area banks and the post office will be closed Thanksgiving Day only.

Meanwhile, the Reporter salutes the men and women - law enforcement, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel - who will work around the clock to keep our homes safe and respond when their assistance is needed.

We are also thankful for retailers, restaurants and other business owners who will fire up their stoves, keep gasoline flowing and shelves stocked to fill our needs.

Happy Thanksgiving!
