The Bosque River Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas will meet at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the First Presbyterian Church in Stephenville.
Steve (Buckshot Roberts) Sodich and Kraig White, re-enactors of the Republic of Texas period will give the program. Sodich and White are “living historians” of the Republic period and of the Confederate periods of Texas history and take part in programs and reenactments all over the state.
The chapter will celebrate Stephen F. Austin’s birthday - Nov. 3, 1793. He is recognized as the Father of Texas.
DRT Founders’ Day, Nov. 6, 1891 will also be celebrated. That was the day a group of 17 ladies met in Houston to found what became the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
New members Vicki Henson, who is a descendent of James Manor; Delise Burrus, descendant of Henry Ralph; and Charlene Lietz, descendant of Lucius Benjamin Polk, will be welcomed as well as ladies who have recently transferred into the chapter.
Chapter members live in Erath, Bosque, Comanche, Somervell, Hood and Eastland Counties. To become a member of DRT, a woman must be a direct descendant of someone who served the Republic of Texas prior to February, 1846.
