The public is invited to help Walter Maynard celebrate his retirement after serving for 12 years as Somervell County judge.

A reception in Maynardís honor will be held this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Somervell County Citizens Center. Several people will make remarks and Maynard will offer some comments as well. Refreshments also will be served.

Maynard relinquished his title at midnight, Jan. 1, when County Commissioner Mike Ford was sworn in as the new county judge (see related photo on page 1).

Maynard has devoted 28 years to public service, including stints on the Glen Rose Independent School District Board of Trustees and the Central Appraisal District board. He and his wife, Brenda, are active in church and civic organizations.

In honor of Maynardís service, a bench bearing his name will be placed on the grounds of the Somervell County Courthouse. A chair with his name engraved on a small plate on the back also will be placed in Glen Rose Medical Centerís nursing home for use by the residents.

The chair was paid for by personal donations from members of the countyís Hospital Authority Board to honor Maynardís leadership and support of the medical center. The nursing home is raising funds through donations and projects to replace the existing chairs.
