A Texas sized adventure race is coming to Glen Rose on Saturday, July 26.
Terra Firma Promotions will hold the fifth and final race in a state contest at the W3R Ranch. The race consists of four events: running, paddling, biking and a special event.
The special event is not revealed until race day. Scott Hudson, owner of Terra Firma Promotions, said previous special events have been cargo net climbing, wheelbarrow racing, even jellybean tossing.
“Adventure races are not like triathlons or relays,” Hudson said. “Each team is a two-person team and both teammates do every event together.”
Saturday’s race will begin with running at 9 a.m. The second event will be paddling on the Paluxy and Brazos Rivers. Teams will then compete on the bicycle trails. After the fourth event, an award ceremony will be held.
Winners from the day’s event will be recognized, but state winners will also be announced.
Competitors began in May, earning points and awards. Hudson said results from all five races will be compiled and the top teams in the state will be recognized.
Adventure races draw all types of people. Hudson said one of the youngest team members is 13 years old, but that people as young as 60 are competitive as well. He also said some teams are married couples who just enjoy getting out and being active; others are extremely competitive and train very hard.
Spectators are invited to come out and watch the race. Fans will be able to watch the start and the finish lines of the race.
