Glen Rose Junior High Optimist Youth of the Month for February are Merae Talavera and Colton Bretton.

Talavera is on the “AB” honor roll, is an honor student and is taking AP classes in Science and History.

Her leadership roles include being on the cheerleading squad for two years, being a member of Tommy Girls soccer team and she is a three-year member of the band.

Talavera is a member of the Catholic Youth Organization and serves as an altar server for St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Bretton is on the “A” honor roll and was on the “AB” honor roll in seventh grade.

His leadership roles include being a starting player in football and basketball on the “A” Team and he was chosen to be on the Glen Rose All-Star Baseball Team.

Bretton’s achievements include earning a commended performance on TAKS testing for grades three through seven. He was selected for Barnard’s Mill Art Show in seventh grade and has had perfect attendance awards during school career. He was also chosen for sixth grade All District Track Team.

He is an active member of First Baptist Church of Glen Rose, a Vacation Bible School youth helper and a volunteer at Mission Arlington for food delivery and toy distribution. He was a Red Cross volunteer for hurricane relief.
