A hot dog lunch will be provided from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Friday, April 18, at the Sheriff’s Office. Proceeds from the event will benefit Relay for Life.
Glen Rose High School’s Junior Class will hold a student and parent meeting on Wednesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. in the GRHS cafeteria. Topics to be discussed include important information about the upcoming senior year, college visits and SAT/ACT test dates. Prom date applications and class dues will also be accepted. The Glen Rose Bird Club will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 17, at the Spirit Wind Church. The speaker will be Rod Hale who will talk about ways to “snake proof” your next birding field trip.
The Dixie’s Daughters chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will perform a Roll Call at Chalk Mountain Cemetery and Oden Chapel Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center has invited the Somervell County Master Gardeners Association to participate in their second annual Party for the Plant in celebration of Earth Day from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. on April 19. This year’s theme is “We Do Conservation”. In keeping with the theme, the SCMGA’s booth will be selling native and adapted plants as well as rainwater harvesting barrels. The Glen Rose-Somervell County Chamber of Commerce is planning a Casino Night for 7 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Tres Rios Resort. The night will have all the attributes of a western saloon, with food, music, card playing and great auction items.
Post Oak Cemetery Association will met Saturday, April 19, 2008. All persons interested are urged to come and assist in the cleanup of all the plots to prepare the grounds for mowing. Business meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the Chapel.
Hill College will host its third annual Boots and Suits Ball at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at The Forum in Whitney. It will be an evening of fine dining, music by the Steve Helms Band and the Hill College Jazz Band, dancing, and fundraising, with all proceeds going to benefit the Hill College Performing Arts Department. The Somervell County Relay For Life is an overnight event from 6 p.m. on April 25 to 6 a.m. on April 26 at the Glen Rose Soccer Park that symbolizes the long journey a cancer patient endures. The evening is the finding out that one has cancer, the late night is the treatment and recovery and the dawn is the realization that one has conquered the disease. This year’s theme is “CELEBRATE”-in honor of the cancer survivors in our community, “REMEMBER”-remember those we have lost to this dreaded disease, and “FIGHT BACK”-what we all need to do when one we love comes down with cancer. The Relay For Life this year is dedicated to one of our own-Jere Ford-a volunteer for years with The Relay and one who lost the battle last year. Please join us in raising fund for the American Cancer Society so that we can see a cure for cancer in our lifetime.
The 11th Annual BBQ Goat Cook-off, car show, 5K run, arts and craft, food vendors, Miss Texas 2007, live entertainment will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, in the Goldwaite City Park. The Glen Rose Lions Club is hosting its 12th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Squaw Valley Golf Course on May 9th. Tee off is at 12:30 p.m. There will be several interesting contests including the hole-in-one, prizes on all par threes for a hole-in-one, buy an eagle, golf ball lottery, door prizes, a Ranch House BBQ lunch, putting for $25,000 and much more!
