Tax season is just around the corner. We will have AARP Tax Service available at the Citizen’s Center starting Feb. 2. Please call 897-2139 and ask Sandy to make you an appointment.

We should all take pointers from Mary Voss. Mary threw herself a 90th birthday party at the Citizen’s Center last week. Mary served punch and several different kinds of cake. She was surprised with a vase of flowers, a corsage, and a bouquet of “happy birthday” balloons. Special guest attending were Jane Bradley, Carlie English’s daughter; Jim and Martha Dempsey, Mary’s friends from Dallas; Kay Mahoney, Mary’s daughter; and Sharon Wiley brought her mother, Abbie Ivey. The “42” tournament was the same day so Mary had a crowd for her party. We wish you many more birthdays, Mary.

The “42” tournament winners on Jan. 7 were: 1st place Eddie & Billie Flanary; 2nd place Dorothy Holder & Royce Stacy; 3rd place Roy Mercer & Clark Stewart; 4th place Dorothy Jo Osborn & Ila Verne Stull. The rest of the teams competing were: Dortha Beck & Floyd Flanary; Veda Gosdin & Nancy Moore; Loveda Swaim & Grady May; Zula Hunter & Cora Harkins; Jim Halbert & J. D. Armstrong; Trey Welch & Ann Parham; Mary Pruett & Billie Jean Pickins; Don Baker & Roger Jordan; Alice Lance & Janelle Gartrell; and Pat Thompson & Jeff Parker. Thank you to Mary Baker for serving as tournament judge.

We had a great time at the Gospel Music concert last Saturday night. The One Way Trio, The Baggy Bottom Boys, and a gentleman who tap danced presented some great entertainment. We had close to 70 people in attendance. Hopefully we can have them back soon.

Wii sports were held this morning. Alice has offered to meet with individuals who would like to try their hand at some of the Wii sports to see if the activity might interest them. Alice will meet with you one-on-one and help you through a training stage in the game. The time Alice has set aside for this is Monday afternoons.

Activities at the Center beginning on January 19 are: blood pressure and foot screening on Monday; needlework, ceramics, Gospel Music and Tops on Tuesday; health screening and “42” tournament on Wednesday; Tops and David’s grocery shopping on Thursday; bingo with Cindy, quilting and Brookshire’s grocery shopping on Friday.

Get well wishes go out to Lenine Rehfeldt.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Betty Huffman and Rose Mary Cavasos.
