Special to the Reporter

Water and soil are precious natural resources and keeping our rangeland in good shape to protect them is not an easy task. To help others learn more about this important topic, the Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Somervell and Hood Counties will hold a Range Management Field Day on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

The program will be held at Quail Ridge Ranch located at 1755 CR 2013 in the Chalk Mountain area of Somervell County. The program will run from 9 a.m. to noon and three CEUs, or continuing education hours, will be offered to those with a private applicator license.

Topics to be covered at the field day will include rangeland monitoring, reading rangeland health, watershed management and seeding rangeland. The Hood/Somervell NRCS office also will provide an update on upcoming programs and deadlines.

The field day is open to all land owners no matter how large or small the property. Participants will receive handout materials.

The registration deadline is next Wednesday, Sept. 29. The program will be outdoors, so wear appropriate clothing and boots.
