GLEN ROSE—Services for Joe Gordon Whitworth, 89, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Wiley Funeral Home Chapel in Glen Rose. Interment will be held at Nancy Smith Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Wiley Funeral Home. 

Joe was born in Somervell County, Texas to Joseph and Myrtle Whitworth. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He married Loretta Fern Ice on Nov. 24, 1945 in Glen Rose, Texas and had three children. 

He was a construction worker, farmer and rancher, mechanic, welder and owned his own business. He served on the School Board, was a Sunday School teacher and a Somervell County Commissioner. During his tenure as commissioner the library, citizen center and annex were remodeled. Joe was the past president of the Nancy Smith Cemetery Association. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Reynolds Whitworth; father, Joseph Whitworth; brothers, Tim Whitworth and wife Freda  and Arnold Whitworth and wife Opal; sister, Inieze Whitworth Land and husband Laurence; daughter, Vicky Whitworth Whitefield; and son-in-law, Danny Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Ice Whitworth; brother, Hollis Whitworth and wife Patsy; children, Sharon (Cathey) Whitworth, Judy Whitworth Thompson; son-in-law, Jimmy Whitefield; grandchildren, Lance Cathey and wife Debbie, Chris Whitefield and wife Tracy, Candy Thompson McClure and husband Doug; Jill Cathey Ellison; Matt Whitefield and wife Dusti;  Wendy Thompson Homrighaus and husband Stephen; Penny Cathey Lindsey and husband Jason; Jon Whitefield and wife Gaby; great-grandchildren: Dristan, Gage, and Lillie Cathey; Cordel and Rheagan Whitefield; Taylor, Trayle, and Trinity McClure; Hunter, Holly and Peyton Ellison; Drew and Andi Whitefield; Conner, Corbin, Caysen, and Cadee Homrighaus; Gavin and Brice Lindsey; Gaston and Colten Whitefield and many nieces and nephews.
