ALVORADO - George LaFountain , 73, of Alvorado passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Huguley Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Visitation service was held at Mount Valley Funeral Home at Joshua on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 6-8 p.m. with cremation following.
LaFountain was the son of the late Spencer and Lillian Fargo LaFountain and was born April 26, 1936 in upstate New York. He spent his entire childhood in and around Watertown and Black River. He joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17 and spent time serving during the Korean Conflict. His various duties sent him to Africa, Puerto Rico and many other areas around the world and United States.
He was employed by Walmart for the past 11 years, after spending many years with other grocery stores and chains over the past 50 years as a meat cutter.
Survivors include his wife Maud of the home; son Stephen LaFountain of Fort Worth; daughters Deborah Sparks and husband Lewis of Alvarado, Cheryl Scheetz of Glen Rose, Elaine Mankin and husband Bobby of White Settlement; three stepsons, Michael, Jason and Jody Halbert and families; sister Joan Van Alstyne and husband Gary of Baldwinsville, New York; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, in addition to loving friends and family members.
