GLEN ROSE - Longtime Glen Rose resident E.J. Whitworth, 72, ended a five-year battle with cancer on March 5, 2010. He was surrounded by family and friends when he passed away.
Whitworth was born in Amarillo on Feb. 2, 1938 and worked in electrical construction all over the country for many years. He moved to Glen Rose in 1979 to work on construction on the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant.
An avid golfer, Whitworth could often be found at Squaw Valley Golf Course with a golf club in his hand. He retired from DG&G Electric in Midlothian.
Whitworth is survived by his wife, Renee, of Glen Rose; sons Doug Whitworth of Highland Village, Craig Beckwith of Mexia and Kenneth Whitworth of Oregon; daughters Diane McKillop of Oregon and Dena Stratton of Bumpus Mills, Tenn.; and many grandchildren.
Close friends and family include Donne Long, Jay Tarter, Duff Cunningham, Dee Dee and Ronnie Long and a host of others around Texas and the United States who knew and loved him.
No formal services are scheduled at Whitworth's request. A gathering of friends and family will be scheduled at a time to be announced.
