CLEBURNE - Walter Don Phipps, 79, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow at White Church Cemetery in Glen Rose. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Don was born Nov. 14, 1933, in Eulogy to Laverne (Phipps) McKinney and James Walter Phipps. He married Norma Ford April 6, 1968. In his early years, Don worked at Lone Star Gas Company then opened Don Phipps Used Cars, which was still in operation upon his death. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a Master Mason.
He raised cattle and grew hay on his farm alongside his uncle, Hill Wheatley, all his life. He was "Sweetie" to his wife, "Hero" to his kids, "Paw Paw" to his grandkids and a mentor to his brother and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Noma Phipps; daughters, Linda Lester and husband Gary, Donna Heller and husband Ed, Tionette Ford Blakely; and son, Ronnie Ford; grandchildren, Gary Don Lester, Dustin Hill Lester, Jayme Lester Taylor, Kansas Heller, Brandy Ford Stepp, James Ford and Johnathan Higgins; great-grandchildren, Madyson Taylor, Jace and Reid Stepp and AJ and Hagen Ford; brother, David McKinney; and sisters, Mary Plummer and Geneva Wooten.
