GLEN ROSE - On July 18, 2009 Patsy L. Hanks peacefully transitioned with grace and dignity from this world into the next. Hanks was born Jan. 15, 1938, in Hodges, the third of seven children born to Leo and Edna Cook Moore. Raised in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico, she graduated from Eunice High School and went on to obtain BA and MA degrees in Education and Counseling from Dallas Baptist College and the University of North Texas. She was a school counselor, classroom teacher and staunch child advocate for over 38 years, teaching mainly in Midlothian and Glen Rose, Texas schools.
Survivors include daughter Tammy L. Hanks, Ph.D., her partner Nancy Roope and children Kendrick, Keith and Kensha of Placitas, NM., daughter Terry Stroud and partner Don Brown of Argyle; grandchildren Brittany Stroud, Chase Stroud and Nicholas Garrett, Nickís wife Stephanie and great-grandson Andrew Garrett. Other survivors include her best friend Dorothy Gibbs and former son-in-law Robert Stroud along with countless Glen Rose friends.
Hanks enjoyed a life-long close bond with all six of her siblings and their spouses, Mary Shea of Tumwater, Wash.; Derry and Kirby Moore of Roswell, N.M.; Bob and Fay Moore of Alamogordo, N.M.; Sandra and Vernon Monks of Portales, N.M.; Buddy and Sherri Moore of Levelland; and Terry Moore of Roswell, N.M.. She also leaves behind eleven wonderful nieces and nephews, their families, Uncle Barnett Moore and a large extended family.
Her life was celebrated in a memorial service on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Glen Rose.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Patís name to the LDL Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 1283, Glen Rose, Texas 76043.
