RAINBOW - Melanie Slaton, 61, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, in Burleson.?
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2013, at First United Methodist Church Glen Rose. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service.

Melanie was born Oct. 30, 1952, in San Antonio. She married Jeff Slaton Dec. 1, 1972, in Buffalo Gap.
Melanie was an avid traveler and saw all but seven states and numerous foreign countries. She was also dedicated to early childhood education, starting with a home daycare in Glen Rose in 1980.
She worked in every state she lived in as a pre-school teacher. Upon her final return to Glen Rose, she once again went back to children, and in some cases, found herself helping to develop the children of the very children she helped years before.?
Melanie was a member of First United Methodist Church of Glen Rose, and as a longtime resident of Somervell County, she leaves countless friends and lives she touched, to miss her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Carson; father, Ben West; mother, Margaret West; a brother, Robert; and son, Bobby.?
Survivors include husband of 41 years, Jeff; sons, Shawn and wife, Stephanie, of Cleburne, Joshua and wife, Amanda, of Bono; three grandchildren, Sierra, Trinity and Brayden; numerous nieces and nephews; and a world full of kids that might as well have been children, grandchildren or nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her step-mother, Jean Carson; brothers, Ben West of Houston, Larry West of San Antonio, Glen Pelts and Charlie Carson of Baytown; and sister, Candy of Houston.
