Ms. Ollie Dowden

GLEN ROSE - Ms. Ollie Dowden passed away Feb. 1, three weeks short of her 102 birthday. A native and long-time resident of Louisiana, she came to live in Texas when she was 98. Her frequent comment was, “There are so many good people in Texas.” She was an avid gardener and quilt maker. She was preceded in death by her husband Bryant to whom she had been married to for 69 years. She is survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as by one son Bryant Dowden, Jr. of Flora, Louisiana, and two daughters, Glennie Dowden Scarborough, of Cane River, Louisiana, and Winnie Dowden Wyatt of Glen Rose. Ms. Ollie will be buried in the church yard of Good Hope Baptist Church in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana.

The staff and residents of Cherokee Rose, where she passed away, will celebrate a “Remembering Ms. Ollie Day” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in honor of her birthday and times they shared with her.
