A Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Granbury with a rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Glen Rose.
Schmidt was born in Midland on Jan. 7, 1958, to Jim and LaReva Parker. She was raised in Harlingen, with her siblings Brady, Wendy and Bob. She met Paul Schmidt at Texas A&M and married him there on June 21, 1980. She earned a BS in Biology at Texas A&M, class of 1980, followed by a BS in Medical Technology at University of South Alabama. She was heavily involved in working with youth in the Catholic church ever since she moved to Beaumont in 1984. She worked as a medical technologist, nurse and office manager until her daughters Erika and Maria were born in 1987 and 1993. They moved to Glen Rose in 1997. She began working with non-English speaking students at Glen Rose ISD in 1999 as she was always passionate about their unmet needs. She attended Tarleton University to become a certified teacher in Biology and Spanish in 2002.
She was the most caring and loving person we have ever known. She continued to be a devoted teacher, mother and wife until she passed away from complications of cardiac arrest on July 24, 2009.
