RAINBOW - Don Humphrey, 73, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, in Glen Rose from a lengthy illness, with his family by his side.?
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Squaw Creek Cemetery in Rainbow. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.?
Don was born Sept. 27, 1939, in Paris, Texas, to Ferrish and Alice Dean Humphrey. He graduated from Lancaster High School. He married Beverly Jane "B.J." Bailey on April 20, 1959 and had lived in Rainbow since May 1986.?
Don served in the U.S. Army for six years. He was an electrician by trade, worked in hospital maintenance for 40 years and retired in 2004 from Walls Regional Hospital. Don loved his Lord Jesus Christ and served as Deacon at Rainbow Baptist Church. He was a talented musician, passionate about bluegrass, always ready at any given time to "pick and grin" with his many bluegrass friends.
He also eagerly followed his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, regardless of miles, all over Texas. He was an avid fan of six-man football.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ferrish and Alice Humphrey; stepfather, Raymond Hartley; and grandson, Luke Humphrey.?
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, B.J. Humphrey; sons, Daryle Humphrey and wife, Melissa, Landy Humphrey and wife, Carla, Alan Humphrey and wife, Elise; grandsons, Chevy Humphrey, Clint Humphrey, Austin Briley and Hayden Humphrey; granddaughters, Vanessa Voekel husband, Adam, Samantha Briley and Nicole Humphrey; great-grandson, Hunter Voekel; great-granddaughter, Kynley Humphrey; brother, Dale and wife, Mary; sister, Lois Jones and husband, Dale; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert L. and Neoma Ward; uncle, Jack Humphrey and wife, Joyce; and aunts, Virginia Pickett and Joyce Ryzak.
