Jerry Ray Smith
WALNUT SPRINGS - Jerry Ray Smith, 75, saddled up and rode into the sunset Thursday, April 2. Graveside services were held on Sunday, April 5, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Walnut Springs.
Smith and his twin brother Terry, were born in Walnut Springs, Texas on February 7, 1934, to “Hank” and Fannie Vaughn Smith. He lived in either Walnut Springs or in West Texas most of his life. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
Smith owned a fence company for many years and built fences all around this area; many still stand today. He built fence on the Pitch Fork, the Triangle and the 6666 ranches in West Texas.
He loved riding horses and he loved his border collie dogs especially his old favorite, “Rig.” He loved calf roping on his favorite horse, “Pretty Boy.” He was admired by cowboys, young and old. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his daughters Sharlene Brown, Karen Robinson, Lisa Campbell, Kylee Castillo and husband, Cesar, and Aimee Smith; 11 grandchildren; great-grandson, Garrett; and numerous other family members and friends.
