Barbara Ann Wheeler Metker was born Oct. 17, 1937, to James and Lois Wheeler in Fort Worth, Texas. She passed away Dec. 18, 2020.
Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 21, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose. Service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Cottonwood Baptist Church in Glen Rose. Interment will follow at Nancy Smith Cemetery.
She married Carl F. “Buddy” Metker on Sept. 12, 1955, and made their home in Irving. They moved to Glen Rose in 1971, where they made their home on CR 1004 and continued to reside until her death.
Barbara began working for GRISD in 1974 and held numerous positions throughout her 35 years with GRISD (janitor, secretary, bus driver) and enjoyed supporting the Glen Rose Tigers.
She was nearly a 50-year member of Cottonwood Baptist Church. She also enjoyed making hand-made (with love) crocheted gifts for family and friends. Barbara enjoyed vegetable gardening and cooking for her children and grandchildren. She was a 25-year survivor of cancer.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F Metker Sr.; son-in-law, Lonnie D. Baker; parents, James and Lois Wheeler; and siblings, Jimmy Wheeler and Patsy Richards.
She is survived by her children, Ann Baker, Carolyn Vineyard and husband Bill, Carla O’Neal and husband Charlie, Carl Metker Jr. and wife Vanessa, and Willie Metker; six grandsons, Mike, Lonnie, Richie, Lance, Landon and Hunter; 10 granddaughters, Candace, Amanda, Mikala, Caitlin, April, Mallory, Erika, Miranda, Madison, and Camaron; 12 great-grandsons;16 great-granddaughters and two great-great-grand-daughters.
Services under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home, Glen Rose.
