In observance of Confederate Memorial Day, Saturday, April 26, the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy “Dixie Daughters,” will honor Somervell County Confederate soldiers by conducting a calling of the roll.
The Daughters will be visiting Chalk Mountain Cemetery where eight Confederate soldiers are buried and will then move to Oden Chapel Cemetery where one Confederate soldier is interred.
The Calling of the Roll Ceremony is delivered by chapters located in all areas of the United States. The ceremonies are a poignant moment that remembers the history of this country and those citizens who built this great land.
Daughters of the Confederacy will meet at the Heritage Center Library, located at 100 N.E. Barnard St. on the square at 9:15 a.m. and proceed to the Chalk Mountain Cemetery, and then move to the nearby Oden Chapel. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony.
