Less than a month remains in this school year, but students at Walnut Springs High School are staying involved with sports, prom, competitions and the new STAAR test.

Several members of the track teams qualified for area competition. Brooke Townley qualified in two events with a fourth in the 3200 run and third in the 1600 meter run. Rosa Fabela joined her with fourth in the 1600 meter run, while the relay team of Kristine Sanchez, Rosa Fabela, Makayla Allmon and Brooke Townley placed third in the 1600 meter relay.

The boys tracksters also had a good season with the sprint relay team of Austin Rose, Seth Rodriquez, Dillon Rose and Jeremiah Essix qualifying for area.

The golf team has done well, too, with five members traveling to Nacogdoches for regional play. Kyler Ballesteros was high point player in district and area. Joining him at regionals were Austin Rose, Aaron Herring, Tony Chavez and Adan Galindo. Supporting them as Hornet golfers are Juan Jacquez, Carlos Lerma, Seth Rodriquez, and Jeremiah Essix.

More competition has been provided by career development events.Walnut Springs sent team members Darin Freeman, Aaron Herring, Alyssa Godwin and Zane Trotter, who placed 13th in the Area VIII Dairy Judging and fifth in the Waco District.

STAAR and TAKS tests are still on students' minds. Teachers, administrators and parents share the stress of these end-of-school evaluations that affect students for their school careers.

Finally, spring brings out the beautiful people when they attend the Junior-Senior Prom. This year's prom theme is "Neon Masquerade." Buffalo Run will be decorated with colors, masks and other decorations to ensure a festive time to reward the girls for their hours spent in preparing and the boys for working on their dance steps and transportation.

The prom will be held at 8 p.m. April 21, preceded by the Grand March at 6 p.m. in Edwards Auditorium for photo sessions.

Every year is special for students, and end-of-year activities are among the strongest memory-makers. Walnut Springs students, like those everywhere, are making memories!
