Two Glen Rose High Students were recently recognized as Optimist Youth of the Month for January.
Abby Cole and Hance Burney were recognized for excellence within the halls of education, athletic achievements and extracurricular involvement.
Cole made the dean's list and president's list while taking dual credit courses during her junior your.
She is a member of the varsity cheer squad, National Honor Society, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Powerset and varsity tennis.
Abby received the top Biology Award in her ninth grade year and Nutrition and Wellness Award in tenth grade. She was named Prom Princess in 2012 and Class Favorite in 2009 and 2011.
Her community involvement includes playing Bingo with the Cherokee Rose residents on Sundays and participation in Christmas in Action and StoneWater Church youth group.
Burney has been on the AB Honor Roll every year of his high school career, on FFA Career Development Events skills team his junior year, Leadership Development Events wildlife team his junior and senior years, scored a three out of five on the World History AP test and has taken AP and dual classes throughout high school.
His leadership activities include membership of in Future Leaders Organization in his freshman – junior years, the National Honor Society in his freshman – senior years and service as a FFA officer (student representative) his junior year.
Burney's achievements include participation in football all four years of high school, 2nd team Academic All-State, 1st Team All District Tackle, Ag Student Award his Junior year, playing baseball his freshman year. He has also participated in basketball, golf and track.
His involvement activities include participation in Christmas in Action, nursing home trips, showing goats at the Youth Fair and membership of First Baptist Church, where he participates in Disciple Now.
