At a recent meeting of the Glen Rose Optimist Club, high school student Shelby Rotan was honored as December Youth of the Month for achievements inside the classroom and beyond.
Shelby is Glen Rose High School's top-ranking World History student and has been academic all district in all sports since her ninth grade year.
Her on-campus leadership activities include membership in Future Leaders Organization in the 2010-11 and induction into POWERSET this year. She serves a varsity cheer captain and also held the post on the junior varsity squad. Shelby is also a member of National Honor Society.
Additional achievements include being named a regional qualifier in academic UIL computer applications, Academic All State Volleyball, Academic All District basketball, volleyball and softball, 2nd team all district volleyball and basketball and Honorable Mention softball 2012. She was named Homecoming Queen in 2012 and All American cheerleader.
Shelby also works to improve the community through involvement in Christmas in Action, Paluxy Pedal, StoneWater Church youth group and nursing home visits.
Benjamin Coppock, who was not able to attend the December meeting will be recognized by Optimists in January.
