The Glen Rose girls basketball squad clinched a playoff berth Tuesday night with a resounding 62-44 victory over Venus on the road as Ally Andress poured in 28 points.

The 23-8 Lady Tigers improved to 6-4 in District 8-4A, and will have another key district contest Friday at home against Midlothian Heritage.

“It’s always good to meet certain goals, and a major goal is to make the playoffs,” Lady Tigers coach Ramsey Ghazal said. “Now we’ve got a real big game with Heritage for playoff positioning.”

In addition to Andress having another big night on offense, the Lady Tigers also got nine points from Logan Smith and eight from Hailey Ibarra.

Ghazal noted that the Lady Tigers had been struggling some on offense lately, but he was pleased that they showed more spark at Venus.

“We scored when we had a chance to put the ball in the basket,” he said. “We hadn’t scored 60 points in a while. Sydney Lozier is shooting the ball better.”

The varsity girls game Friday against Heritage is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff, to be followed by the varsity boys matchup.
