For the first time in many years, Glen Rose High School is staging a powerlifting meet.
The GHS boys and girls teams will play host to the Glen Rose Invitational at Tiger Arena on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. Nine schools are entered, with 75 lifters scheduled to compete in various weight classes, according to GRHS powerlifting coach Terry Harlin.
Harlin, who is the co-coach along with Brandon Greenhaw, said that he has heard there were some high school powerlifting meets held in Glen Rose in the 1980s, but none since then.
“Our kids are pretty pumped to compete (and) perform in front of the home crowd — and because it’s the first one we have hosted in modern times,” Harlin said.
The GRHS teams opened the season with a meet at Dublin, followed by a meet in Comanche before having an open date last weekend.
