Three members of the Glen Rose High School girls powerlifting team have qualified for the Region 2, Division 2 regional meet to be held March 2 in at Academy High School.

The three qualifiers are Antonia Diaz, Isela Delgado and Tatum Stegint. Diaz qualified in the 123-pound class with a total of 560 pounds. Delgado’s qualifying high total of 650 sends her in the 165-pound division. Stegint locked up her spot in the 198-pound class with a total of 680 pounds.

Terry Harlin, co-coach of the GRHS boys and girls powerlifting teams along with Curtis Lowery, said this is the most Lady Tigers to qualify for regional in a single year in the history of the program. Only two other Lady Tiger powerlifters had ever made it to regionals before.

The Glen Rose boys won’t find out who qualified for their regional meet until next week, Harlin said. Their regional competition will be Saturday, March 11, in Smithville.

Harlin noted that Stegint also qualified last year, but she opted not to compete at the regional powerlifting event because of a conflict with softball.

“She has worked really hard in the off-season and this powerlifting season to assure that she qualified again … this time more decisively with a higher total than last year,” Harlin stated. “Antonia and Isela definitely exceeded expectations, not that coach Lowery and I didn't believe in them, but they have definitely brought their work ethic to a new level this season and it has now paid off for them. All three of these young ladies are very deserving of this accomplishment that they have earned.”

Last Saturday at a meet in Stephenville, three members of the Tigers boys squad earned second-place medals — Glen Gent, Dillon Graves and Nic Lara. Also, Diaz earned second place in her division among the girls.

Third-place spots were earned by Julian Talavera among the boys, and Alexis Norman, Sandy Delgado and Isela Delgado in the girls division.
