Glen Rose High School’s Tyler Torres added one more award to his collection this week when he was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A baseball all-state team as an honorable mention selection for the 2017 season.

Previously, Torres had been named as a second-team all-state pick by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, prompting GRHS baseball coach James Evans to say that he “is the type of kid every coach wants on their team.”

As the leadoff hitter and starting second baseman for coach James Evans’ Tigers, Torres notched a blistering .480 batting average in 2017, which was his junior year.

Torres led the Tigers in hits last season, with 36 in 75 at-bats, and in runs scored with 32. He was second on the team in doubles, with five.

He, along with Tigers’ shortstop Camron Rush, were the lone Tigers voted first-team all-District 8-4A. Rush graduated in May, but Torres has senior year ahead of him with the Tigers.

At the end of his sophomore year, Torres was voted by the coaches as the district’s Newcomer of the Year.
