PRINCETON — Still-undefeated Sherman completed a perfect run through the Princeton Tournament field on Saturday, beating Nevada Community in the championship match of the Gold Bracket, 25-8, 25-11.

Sarah Graham and Madi Gladen each recorded five kills to lead the Lady Cats (8-0) in the final match. Graham added an ace and three blocks, while Gladen finished with a block and six digs. Dallas Aleman contributed a pair of aces, 16 assists and seven digs; Cameron Wecker added nine digs; and Alexis Jackman was named an All-Tournament player.

The Lady Cats began Saturday by sweeping both Crandall and Blue Ridge in two sets each to reach the Gold Bracket final.

Sherman won its pool on Friday with a 25-16, 25-8 victory against Pilot Point, a 25-22, 24-25, 15-8 victory over Community and a 25-15, 25-20 victory against Farmersville.

In the win against Pilot Point, Gladen put down nine kills, Kylie Jackman chipped in six kills and Aleman handed out 19 assists.

Gladen finished with nine kills and 13 digs, Jackman added five kills and six digs, Wecker collected eight digs and Aleman totaled 29 assists to go with seven digs against Community.

In the win against Farmersville, Rylie Bernard had seven kills and four digs, Jackman chipped in six kills and six digs, Wecker collected 10 digs and Aleman finished with 11 assists and five digs.

Consolation Championship

Crandall def. Gunter 2-1

PRINCETON — The Gunter Lady Tigers lost against Crandall, 25-27, 25-21, 8-15, in the consolation championship match of the Princeton Tournament on Saturday.

Camryn MacDonald was named to the all-tournament team and totaled 50 kills, 41 digs, 11 blocks and six aces for the weekend while Jacee Childers totaled 105 assists and 40 digs and Beth Gilbreath finished with 31 kills and five aces.

Gunter (5-2) started the day with a 14-25, 21-25 lost against Princeton before a 25-18, 25-21 win against Tioga.

The Lady Tigers went 3-0 in pool play with a 25-15, 25-12 win against Grand Saline, a 25-19, 25-19 victory over Greenville and a 25-10, 25-20 win against Denton Calvary.

ASC Classic

Gold Consolation Bracket

FW Paschal def. Denison 2-0

CARROLLTON — The Denison Lady Yellow Jackets lost against Fort Worth Paschal, 13-25, 22-25, to close out the ASC Classic on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Jackets lost their opener in bracket play, 25-20, 25-27, 18-25, against Frisco Independence on Friday night.

In pool play on Friday, Denison defeated Argyle, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, and Plano East, 25-23, 25-23, to go with a 13-25, 21-25 loss against Frisco Liberty.

In the win against Argyle, which was last year’s Class 4A runner-up, Taylor Greenameyer had 13 kills and 13 digs, Kiara Scott added 12 kills and five digs, Kenli Powell totaled three kills and 12 digs, Courtney Gillespie handed out 26 assists and Taylor Dawes collected 10 digs.

Greenameyer and Scott each had seven kills in the loss against Frisco Liberty while Drew Hayes put down three kills and Gillespie handed out 14 assists.

The Lady Jackets (5-3) play at North Lamar at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Chisum Tournament

Silver Bracket


Whitewright def. Chisum 2-0

PARIS — The Whitewright Lady Tigers earned the Silver Bracket championship with a victory over the host team at the Chisum Tournament on Saturday.

Amaya Rice and Juliann Kelley paced the Lady Tigers with 10 kills each while Emily Looney put down five aces and Kelsey Hodgdon handed out 25 assists for the day.

Whitewright opened pool play on Friday with an 18-25, 25-12, 15-10 victory against DeKalb to go with a 25-23, 12-25, 9-15 loss against North Lamar’s junior varsity and a 26-28, 13-25 loss against Rivercrest.

Rice had 13 kills on the day while Kelley added 11 kills and Looney finished with seven kills. Hodgdon totaled 11 aces and 33 assists and Jy’rea Johnson contributed 11 total blocks for Whitewright, which plays at Princeton on Tuesday night.

Saint Jo Tournament

Gold Bracket


Collinsville def. S&S 3-1

SAINT JO — The Collinsville Lady Pirates won the Gold Bracket Championship of the Saint Jo Tournament with a 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20 victory against S&S on Saturday.

S&S opened the tournament with a 25-12, 25-11 win against Savoy and a 25-12, 25-9 victory over Perrin’s junior varsity in pool play. The Lady Rams then beat Chico, 25-19, 14-25, 15-5, in the semifinals on Saturday.

Riley Marshall and Colleen Billmeier were named to the all-tournament team for S&S (5-1), which plays at Valley View on Tuesday night.

Roxton Tournament


Dodd City def. Tom Bean 2-0

ROXTON — Sarah Brent had four kills and three digs as Dodd City won the Roxton Tournament with a 25-17, 25-16 victory against Tom Bean on Saturday.

Abby Weeks finished with seven assists, two kills and three digs, Delaney Pilliod put down three kills, and Journie Hilliard chipped in two kills and two blocks for the Lady Hornets (6-1).

Dodd City picked up a 25-4, 25-10 victory against Roxton and a 25-19, 25-16 victory against Detroit on Saturday.

In the win against Roxton, Brent had eight kills, Hilliard added five kills, Weeks handed out 15 assists and Dani Baccus and Madelyn Underwood each collected three digs.

Brent put down six kills against Detroit while Pilliod added three kills, Weeks totaled 11 assists, two kills and three digs and Hilliard chipped in in two kills and two blocks for Dodd City.


Trenton def. Detroit 2-0

ROXTON — The Trenton Lady Tigers earned third place at the Roxton Tournament with a sweep of Detroit on Saturday.

Gracie Holden finished with 26 kills, 15 digs and 10 assists across three matches, Maddison Lavoie totaled 10 kills and 16 digs, Bethany Nors handed out 28 assists, Carly Stone added six kills and 17 digs and Dalila Hernandez collected 26 digs.

Earlier in the day the Lady Tigers swept Clarksville before being swept by Tom Bean.

In non-district action on Friday, Cumby defeated Trenton, 25-14, 25-19, 25-22. Holden had 10 kills, six digs and two assists, Lavoie chipped in five kills and 10 digs and Stone collected 16 digs for the Lady Tigers (4-4), who host Miller Grove at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
