The Glen Rose High School boys and girls cross country teams started their 2017 season last Friday, Aug. 25, in the Cowtown Classic in Haltom City, and the Lady Tigers earned second place in the team standings with a boost from two runners placing among the top 10 in their division.

Jocelyn Mims finished third and teammate Alexis Mims was eighth.

The GRHS girls were second only to Castleberry River Oaks, but finished ahead of Argyle, which was ranked No. 5 in the state among Class 4A schools entering the new season.

“I’m very proud of our start,” Ghazal said. “We had several girls who ran a lot of miles this summer to be ready for the season.

“We could have a special team this year, but we have a very tough district to deal with first.”

The River Oaks girls won with 34 points, while GRHS took second with 101 and Brock was third with 115. Paradise and Argyle completed the top five, with 119 and 130 points, respectively.

The other finishers for the Lady Tigers were: 16. Laura Ogletree; 29. Avery Turner; 51. America Gutierrez; 66. Liz Gutierrez; 85. Ashlyn Williams; 89. Nayeli Melendez; 92. Kora Dodson.

Three GRHS boys competed in the Haltom City meet. Orrin Miller took 21st place, followed by Tiger teammates Colby Pounds in 49th place, and Dristan Cathey 63rd.
