Breana Rosentreter of Glen Rose took fourth place and teammate Angie Herrera was sixth in the girls regional powerlifting meet held Saturday in Temple as the Lady Tigers closed out their 2018 season.
Also for the GRHS girls, Antonia Diaz took eighth in the 132-pound class, Jazmin Garcia was ninth in the 114-pound class, and Alexis Norman was 11th in the 114-pound division.
The top two in each weight classification, along with those who lifted a minimum qualifying weight to qualify, advanced to the girls state meet March 17 in Waco.
Rosentreter came home with sixth place in the 220-pound weight class with a total lift of 830 pounds. Her squat (320 pounds), bench press (160), deadlift (350) and total were either school records, or tied school records.
Herrera also either set or tied school marks in those same categories, competing in the 97-pound weight class. She lifted 180 pounds in the squat, 80 in bench, 200 in deadlift and 460 pounds overall.
“The girls competed well,” GRHS coach Terry Harlin said. “Breana did exceptionally well being able to medal at such a highly competitive regional meet. Four of five of our lifters had their best overall total of the year, which is really all you can ask for; consistent improvement from week-to-week.
“It would have been great if some more of our girls could have medaled, but Coach (Casey) Alexander and I are both very pleased with how the girls competed … on such a big stage, finished with our best totals of the year (for the most part), and broke several school records in the process.
“I thought both of our seniors, Breana Rosentreter and Antonia Diaz, finished their careers with outstanding days; we appreciate all of their hard work. The other girls are already looking forward and talking about next year!”
Diaz set or tied school records in squat (270), bench (110), deadlift (290) and total (670).
Garcia set or tied school records in squat (210), bench (95) and total (495).
Norman’s 95-pound lift in the bench press either set or tied the school mark in her weight class.
Seven GRHS boys are qualified to compete in the boys regional event, this Saturday in Smithville. They are Briley Green, Dillon Graves, Maxx Lauderdale, Tanner Stroud, Nic Lara, Zach Powell and Hayden Shaw.
