The Glen Rose High School softball team lost a tough one Tuesday night at home to Midlothian Heritage, letting a 3-2 lead slip away when the Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning as the Lady Tigers dropped the District 8-4A battle, 5-3.
Coach Kiel Miller’s Lady Tigers had lost their district opener on March 14 to Venus, 6-0.
The Lady Tigers are 0-2 in district, and 5-7 on the season.
In the loss to Heritage Tuesday, the seventh-inning rally for the Lady Bulldogs included a home run, plus a key error committed by Glen Rose.
The Lady Tigers had fallen behind 2-0 in the top of the fourth, but tied it at 2 in the bottom half of the frame, then gained a 3-2 edge in the fifth.
Heritage had an errorless game, and outhit the Lady Tigers 7-6. GRHS committed three errors in all.
Sydney Lozier had a two-run double for the Lady Tigers, and Taylor McKenzie drove in one run with a double. Courtney Morris, Kaylee McDonald, Stormi Burns and Abby Green had one hit each.
McKenzie was the starting pitcher for Glen Rose. She allowed two runs on four hits, struck out five and walked one. Courtney Morris took the loss in relief. She gave up three runs on three hits and struck out one with no walks.
Venus outhit the Lady Tigers 10-2, and put the game out of reach with a four-run third inning.
Burns and Felicity Austin recorded the only hits for Glen Rose.
Morris went the distance pitching, but just two of the runs were earned as the Lady Tigers had three errors. She struck out 10 batters and walked two.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play Friday at Alvarado. Their next game is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Godley.
