Dillon Graves earned fourth place and Nic Lara took fifth in their respective divisions representing Glen Rose High School in the Class 4A boys state powerlifting meet held Saturday in the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Both Graves and Lara earned their state medals as seniors.

The other GRHS state qualifier, Briley Green, was 12th in the 123-pound weight class.

Lara established a new GRHS record in the 242-pound weight class in the squat event Saturday, lifting 595 points.

Graves, competing in the 132-pound weight class, totaled 1,095 points on the day.

“Coach (Casey) Alexander and I are both really proud of how these three young men competed on the grandest stage of all and of the work ethic not only in getting ready for the state meet, but also over the course of the season, and for Dillon and Nic over the course of two great four-year powerlifting careers” GRHS powerlifting coach Terry Harlin stated. “It was exciting seeing these young men getting to compete at the state meet side-by-side with the greatest lifters from across the state.”

Harlin added that “it was fun and rewarding seeing these guys develop not only as lifters, but as young men over the last several years.”

Graves lifted 425 pounds in the squat, 250 in the bench press and 240 in the deadlift for a total of 1,095 pounds.

Lara, in addition to his squat, also lifted 350 pounds in the bench press, 490 in the deadlift for a 1,435 total.

Green lifted 300 in the squat, 205 in the bench press and 385 in the deadlift for a total of 890.
