Led by repeat boys singles champion Harrison Hawkins and the mixed doubles team of Briley Green and Logan Smith, the Glen Rose High School Tigers were runner-up in the District 8-4A boys team standings at the District 8-4A meet held April 5-6 at Midlothian Heritage High School.
Hawkins, along with Green and Smith, will advance to the regional tournament in Lubbock April 18-19.
The GRHS girls doubles team of Emma Bozarth and Annie Bryant is an alternate for the regional tourney after taking home third place.
Hawkins opened his run to the singles title with a 6-0, 6-0 win over an Alvarado player. He then defeated the eventual runner-up from Midlothian Heritage, 6-2, 6-1. In the championship match he beat another opponent from Heritage, 6-2, 6-1.
Green and Smith beat a team from Stephenville, 6-1, 6-3, then a duo from Heritage, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. They fell in the mixed doubles final to Heritage, 7-5, 6-2.
Bozarth and Bryant opened with a 6-0, 6-1 win over a team from Stephenville. They lost to Heritage, 6-3, 7-6, 6-4. They secured third place with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 triumph over Godley.
In the junior varsity girls district tournament, Abby Green earned second place in singles and Shelby Simpson was third. The girls JV doubles team of Anna Quinlan and Jana Whitfield also were third, as were Liz Gutierrez and Parker Simmons in mixed doubles.
The GRHS JV girls team finished second in the team standings.
