Glen Rose High School senior Harrison Hawkins closed out his high school tennis career with a fourth-place finish in the boys singles division at the Region I-4A tennis tournament held at McLeod Tennis Complex in Lubbock.

The other GRHS regional qualifier, the mixed doubles team of Logan Smith and Briley Green, was eliminated in the first round.

Hawkins had captured his second consecutive District 8-4A boys singles championship earlier this month in Midlothian and swept all three of his district matches in straight sets, dropping only six games along the way.

In the regional tournament, Hawkins won two matches and lost two.

Last year as a junior, he was matched against the No. 4 seed in the first round of the draw. Hawkins lost, but not before an epic 3-1/2-hour split set battle that featured two tie-breakers.

Smith and Green had earned second place in the district in mixed doubles. They won their first two district matches before losing in the championship match.
