Stone Wickline and Hudson Williams of Glen Rose each placed fifth in their respective divisions Saturday in the Youth Bull Riders World Finals in Abilene.
Both won a belt buckle and some prize money for their efforts at the Abilene event, which was staged Aug. 1-4 at the Taylor County Expo Center.
Wickline, 13, took fifth place in his division, Senior Steers (12-13-year-olds), although he’s only in his first year of competition. Wickline will be an eighth-grader this fall at Glen Rose Junior High School.
Williams, 15, earned fifth place in the Junior Bulls (14-15-year-olds).
In July, Williams won a state title in the Pee Wee Bulls Division at the Youth Bull Riding Association’s state finals in Saginaw. The week before, Williams won the Texas FFA Rodeo Open Bulls title in Alvarado.
Williams and his family are currently in the process of moving to Midlothian, where he will be attending school starting this fall.
There were approximately 60-70 competing in each of the younger divisions at the youth event.
