The Glen Rose High School fall team tennis squad fell to 0-3 in the first half of District 7-4A play Tuesday afternoon at home with a loss to Mineral Wells.
GRHS slipped to 0-2 in district. Tuesday’s match had been postponed from Sept. 20 because of rain. The Tigers and Lady Tigers were scheduled to play yesterday (Sept. 27) at home against Brownwood (4 p.m.) as district play moved into the second half of competition in the four-team alignment. Brownwood, Godley, Mineral Wells and Glen Rose are the only schools in that district for fall team tennis. Stephenville would have made it a five-school district, but is not participating this fall.
Against Mineral Wells Tuesday, the Lady Tiger girls doubles teams of Hazel Hawkins and Ashley Mena, and Abby Payne and Shelby Simpson won their matches. In girls singles, Hawkins, Abby Green and Mena posted victories.
In boys doubles, the GRHS team of Carson Osborne and Parker Simmons won their match.
Winners for GRHS in boys singles were Osborn and Fisher Smith.
The Tigers were playing without their No. 1 player, Harrison Hawkins, who is still recovering from a hand injury but is expected back soon according to coach Gregger Yeager.
