The Glen Rose High School tennis teams have been finding success this spring leading into the District 7-4A meet, which will be April 5-6 at Brownwood High School.

Harrison Hawkins not only remained unbeaten in spring play in winning his fourth title in boys singles, but reached a milestone by winning his 100th singles match with the Tigers. Hawkins won the boys singles titles in both of the tournaments held in Glen Rose — March 7 in the Jurassic Classic and March 21 in the Nick Conte Classic.

Coach Gregger Yeager’s No. 1 mixed doubles team of Logan Smith and Cash Bryan has won titles in all three of their tournaments this spring. His win in the Jurassic Classic singles final was his 100th as a varsity player.

Hawkins will be seeking his third consecutive district singles title, and placed fourth in last spring’s regional tournament. Smith advanced to the regional tournament last spring in mixed doubles with former partner Briley Green.

Also, Natalie Lacey lost for the first time this spring in girls singles in the Conte Classic, but still earned third place.

“Our varsity tennis team performed very well at our home tournaments this year,” Yeager said. “This week at the Nick Conte Classic, we had half of our district competition present and performed very well.

“Hawkins won his fourth title of the season. Smith and Bryan won their third title together in as many tournaments. Lacey fought hard to the end, barely losing 7-9 in the championship match. Osborne and Simons repeated their third-place result, and are still seeking that elusive championship. (The) girls team of Mena and Hawkins came out on top of two tough matches to also place third.”

Glen Rose won the team title in the Jurassic Classic, Yeager noted.

The GRHS girls and boys teams were scheduled to play Thursday, March 28, at the Four-Team Challenge at Burleson High School in their final tuneup for the district tournament.
