The Stephenville Yellow Jackets are rested and ready for a potentially long run in the Class 4A boys soccer playoffs, head coach Taylor Smith said.

Stephenville’s scoring came from Luis Carrillo, with a goal off an assist by J.J. Saldana, and later a goal by Jorge Gallegos on a penalty kick.

The Yellow Jackets finished their District 6-4A schedule on Friday with a 2-0 victory over Brownwood, closing the regular-season slate with a 14-8-4 overall record.

“We are playing at a high level, hitting a good stride going into (the) playoffs,” said Smith, whose squad is 24th in the Class 4A MaxPreps online rankings. “I think we are ready and prepared to be a threat to make a deep run.”

The Jackets had been idle since their last district matchup, a home loss to Mineral Wells on March 8. Smith said the fact the Jackets were playing the Lions (1-13-1) made it possible to rest some of their starters even more than they had recently.

“We are pretty healthy,” Smith noted. “That two weeks off did us good and we rested a lot of starters versus Brownwood.”

The bi-district playoff pairing for the Jackets will be against Burkburnett, the third-place team out of District 5-4A. That matchup will be at 3:30 p.m. at Graham High School’s Newton Field.

Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. The SHS fans will sit on the visitor’s side.

The winner will advance to the area round of the playoffs.

The Jackets were the district runner-up with a 4-2 mark behind 5-1 Mineral Wells, while Brownwood finished third at 0-6.
